Principle:

Highly reflective materials, such as copper, have a very low absorption rate for infrared lasers at room temperature, usually only 5%. When the material is in a molten state, the absorption rate can reach 20%. This means that 80% of the laser is reflected during the cutting process and reflected out at various angles. There is a high probability that it will be returned vertically to the cutting head along the original optical path into the optical device and the welding point, causing the temperature to rise, which may cause the device and the welding point to burn out.

Notes:

a. Use conservative cutting parameters: ensure that each cut can cut through the material to ensure that the light propagates in the downward direction and reduce the impact of reflected light on the device and the weld point.

b. Monitor optical path abnormalities: If any abnormality is found in the optical path, do not try to continue cutting. Stop the operation immediately and find a professional to confirm the problem before proceeding. This can avoid further damage to the laser device and weld point.

c. Control device temperature: It is very important to control the temperature of the weld point inside the laser. When cutting highly reflective materials, pay special attention to controlling the device temperature to prevent overheating and damage to the device.
